When I got my hands on a vintage IBM XT it had been decades since my last encounter with the model 5160. I was presented with a plethora of problems varying from hardware failures to misconfiguration by the previous owner.
The last hurdle was a memory issue. Of course I got online and started reading about tracking down a faulty RAM chip but then I decided to stop and try the inexpensive thermal camera that I purchased a number of years ago for other reasons. Needless to say one chip stood out from the rest and the machine purred to life after swapping it out.
