Cambridge Z88

The Cambridge Z88 is truly an amazing computer. It has a basic interpreter, word processor, terminal program, calculator, diary, and more built into ROM.

The following text was quoted from http://www.renegade.nl/z88/ visit it for extensive Z88 information...

Sir Clive Sinclair, founder and former owner of Sinclair Research had been building computers like the Sinclair ZX80, ZX81, Spectrum and QL. After selling all the Sinclair knowlegde as well as the Sinclair name to Amstrad he established a new company called Cambridge Computer Ltd.

In 1988 Cambridge Computer Ltd. released it's first and last computer: the Cambridge Z88 Laptop computer. Though not a PC Compatible machine, it has proved surprisingly successful, though on a rather more modest scale than some of Sinclair's earlier computers. It was certainly not the first laptop, but it's design was new for that time. It was a very simple and relatively cheap machine; it had a good battery life due to the lack of disk drives, and a decently sized keyboard and a full width screen. The Z88 is a thin A4-sized Z80-based Laptop and runs for about 20 hours on four AA-size alkaline batteries. The rubber keyboard is soundless, though not as comfortable as a real keyboard. It is an ideal laptop with safe file transfers to your desktop PC, Sinclair QL, BBC, Apple Macintosh, Atari ST, Amiga and/or Acorn Archimedes. It has PipeDream, a built-in Wordprocessor, Spreadsheet and Database in one. Other "applications" and "popdowns" supplied on the Z88's rom are a VT52 Terminal, Diary, Calculator, Calendar, Real Time Clock, Alarm and File Import-Export Software.
